Must be 4-5 pages long
No Block quotes are allowed
You MUST use at least two sources for this paper.
Should be formatted as a Microsoft Word document (you can get Office for
free)
Objective:
Write a 4-5 page rhetorical analysis essay (4 full pages MINIMUM, NOT counting your
Works Cited page) and purposefully evaluate the author’s use of effective rhetoric and
all its nuances. You will use critical reading/viewing and thinking skills to “break down”
the piece you choose in order to articulate how and why the author created it–not what
they created. In order to do this, you will analyze the rhetorical strategies the author
uses to achieve his/her purpose in the piece
Please keep in mind that rhetorical analysis (in any capacity or discipline) is NOT:
● A summary of the entire plot
● A book report
● A critique
● An argument about whether you agree or disagree with the author’s/characters’
points of view, behavior, ideas, etc.
Choosing a Piece:
For this assignment, you are going to choose one of the following works to analyze and
write a Rhetorical Analysis essay over:
A speech
An essay
A piece of propaganda
A song (if the words are interesting enough to make an analysis worthwhile)
A music video (time-stamps required for citation)
A commercial (time-stamps required for citation)
A poem
A literary passage
A TedTalk
An advertisement image
Components of the Essay:
Place an order in 3 easy steps. Takes less than 5 mins.
