For this assignment, answer the following questions, making sure to support your arguments with appropriate evidence.
1) Compare two eras of American policing (ch. 1&2 in AH&M), looking for similarities, differences, and the relative strengths/weaknesses of the style(s) of policing done in each era.
2) What is the fragmentation of police service (ch. 3 in AH&M) and what are the costs and benefits associated with it? Overall, is it something that needs to change, and if so, what changes should we make?
3) Explain Recruitment, Selection, Training, and Promotion (ch. 5 in AH&M). What is the biggest problem you see related to one (or more) parts of the RSTP process? What could we do to address this issue? Depending on the stage you focus on, it may be helpful to consider the discussion of police culture in ch.4 of AH&M.
